As if the crocodile skin was not enough, TAG Heuer has dipped the Meridiist phone in a pool of diamonds, officially. The new Meridiist Diamant collection features two phones, one with 208 diamonds totaling 1.3 carats and the other with 1232 diamonds totaling 7.4 carats. They are calling the latter the “imperial regalia of mobile phones”. The diamonds have been set in rows along the angled sides of the phone body and the display screen. A discreet set of diamonds in the shape of the TAG Heuer logo rests on the camera shutter on the back of the instrument. The Swiss watchmaker is targeting these new, blinged creations at the fairer sex and that looks a neat approach to me. All the Meridiist uber-luxe phones are created with a non-scratch 60.5-carat sapphire crystal display, a hypoallergenic stainless steel body and bespoke digital engineering. The phone features more than 430 mechanical components, with many of them derived from the TAG Heuer chronographs.
The Meridiist Diamant phones are presented in a glossy wooden jewelry box and are expected to sell for between $10,000 and $30,000. Diamonds first appeared on the Meridiist communication instrument in a one-off limited edition piece that sold for 35,000 Euros in the name of charity.
