After entering the Limca Book of Records, a silk sari worth approximately $100,000, is all set to make its grand entry into the Guinness Book of world Records as ‘the world’s most expensive sari’, decked with 12 precious stones, metals and stunning imitation of 11 famous paintings of Raja Ravi Verma. ‘The Chennai Silks’ gets the credit of manufacturing this item with the help of some gifted handloom weavers, who have impeccably crafted Ravi Verma’s much acclaimed painting ‘Lady Musicians’, displaying women musicians from diverse cultures. Not less than 10 paintings of the master are featured on the border itself, and gems like gold, diamond, platinum, silver, ruby, emerald, yellow sapphire, sapphire, cat’s eye, topaz, pearl and coral are intricately woven by hand, to adorn the women in the paintings. ‘Chennai silks’ director Chandran disclosed that the sari took 4,680 man hours for the competent weavers to complete and can be tagged as the first one to be manufactured using 7,440 jacquard hooks and 66,794 cards.
