Restaurant of the future - Studying the people's lifestyle
Naveen | Oct 17 2007

The ‘Restaurant of the future’ is not just a restaurant but a research centre to find out what influences people - colors, taste, personnel. The €3 million research center / restaurant has been developed by Dutch University of Wageningen in collaboration with Sodexho. The trendy new facility features glass walls, black marble countertops, a polished bamboo floor and self-service tills which allow users to inspect their lunch while they and their trays are weighed by a set of scales integrated into the floor. The novel restaurant has a control room where researchers can direct cameras built into the ceiling of the restaurant to zoom in on individual diners and their plates. They are checking everything; say how someone walks with a tray of food, what food they choose to jam on, where they sit, and what they waste. Even the kitchen staff is being spied on. The cameras watch how they work with new gadgets like adjustable work benches and cleaning hoses. Beware folks, ‘Big Brother’ is watching you.
