Loop – A complete green sustainable complement for kitchen
Deepa | Jul 8 2008

Thinking green isn’t just a trend anymore…..it’s become a way of life now. More people than ever before are making conscious buying decisions based on the effect products and their use will have on the world around them. But that doesn’t imply that you need to sacrifice style to live an eco-friendly life. Like the latest concept of the Loop from Teresa Ttillebacher and Birgit Dejaco from Austria. A must have for every green home, this add-on for the kitchen plays a number of roles with a flair. At first glance, it looks like a trendy piece of furniture. And it does let you snuggle up on the cozy sitting zone that is made of flexible membrane. Apart this, the loop is essentially a power plant that provides energy to all of the kitchen appliances. And lastly it intends to nourish you with fresh herbs and vegetables as it houses a green garden too. Isn’t this the most sustainable yet chic kitchen accompaniment?

The designers have rightly put it as ‘I feed my kitchen – my kitchen feeds me.’ Cause you need to feed it with all the compost and in return it delivers both gas and electricity. Integrated with a methane gas processor, loop can extract methane from the decomposing materials. Which in turn is used to cook food or gets converted into electricity by a methanol fuel cell.

And the highlight of this eco-friendly add-on is that you can grow your greens on the surface of loop. The consistently warm surface is the ideal home for plants which are automatically nourished by the rich natural fertilizer. Lastly, loop also provides water and essential storage space.

Very nice idea and kudos for the environmental angle.

The problem is hygiene. Utilizing compost in an area where you cook and clean is a bad idea.
