Kashiwado chair brings a little Japan to your house
Jaiyant Cavale | Aug 7 2008

Japan has given us ninjas, samurais, sumo wrestling, saki and, of course, Anime and Manga apart from the usual high-tech goods they manufacture. This time around, we have a Japanese cedar made chair that was originally meant for a sumo to rest his heels. Isamu Kenmochi, who designed the Kashiwado chair for a sumo wrestler of the yesteryears in 1961, made sure the chair looks not only strong and sturdy, but also exquisite and exotic. Best wood from the cedar tree was selected to create this unique piece of art, for which ‘chair’ is an understatement. Like how the samurai polishes his sword to reach a near impossible sharpness, the chair has been polished and coated to an immaculate finish. When you bring home a Kashiwado chair, you are not just bringing a piece of furniture home, but something soulful, something that is close to the Japanese heart and spirit.

Sure looks sturdy enuf to accommodate a sumo’s big butt :) I think only a sumo can move it too. Folks like you and me may not be able to move it an inch further.
