Veronica | Nov 24 2005

This legendary ornate Queen Elizabeth I costume wore by Whoopi Goldberg, Hollywood’s biggest star for Oscars way back in 1999 Academy Awards was recently sold at an auction of costumes and dresses by the renowned designer Bob Mackie. The 150 items designed by Mackie shelled-in $440,820, part of which will benefit The Elton John AIDS foundation. The event was co-sponsored by Christie’s auction house with Julien’s auctions.

The collection included, a design worn by John during a music tour, a red strapless evening dress with a scarlet-and-black boa worn by Diana Ross in the 1999 film, Double Platinum and an embroidered net gown worn by Sharon Stone in her 1995 film Casino. Besides, the show also included sketches made by Mackie for The judy Garland Show and Elton John Tours. The list of the costumes on the auction shows for itself what an auction it was....!
