Our this week’s Cool Geek is a personality who though does not consider herself a geek but has recently been awarded the title of ‘Most Appreciated Geek’ among her colleagues. (Thy name is Modesty! Right friends :)) So, meet the fun and quirky Jennifer L. DeLeo who is one of the spearheaders of the popular gadget blog GearLog and is also the Associate Editor of PCMag.
And, check-out her picture below with David Blaine, the popular illusionist and stunt performer, in NYC when he attempted to hold his breath underwater longer than 8 minutes.
Here is Jennifer L. DeLeo in her own words:
I never really considered myself a geek in the “tech” sense. Maybe a literary geek, since I enjoy reading and writing. It wasn’t until I joined PC Magazine in 2005 as an assistant editor that I became interested in the technology field. Sure, my cell phone is two years old, I just upgraded to DVR, and I finally know what a dongle is; but that doesn’t mean I’m any less of a geek!
Today, I am an associate editor living a dream: writing for the #1 computer magazine in the world. Twice a week on PCMag, you can catch my Top Ten roundups on the weirdest products and technologies, a task which has earned me the name, “The Weird Hunter”. You’ll read anything from high-tech umbrellas to strange USB devices to wooden gadgets. My roundups have been so popular with readers that I was awarded “Most Appreciated Geek” from the PC Magazine staff.
In addition, I write for two of PC Magazine’s blogs. The first is Gearlog, which covers the latest gadgets and gear. Recently, Gearlog won MPA’s Best Magazine Blog of 2006. What makes Gearlog stand out from the rest of the technology-focused blogs out there is that it’s written by technology editors and analysts. We test products and voice our concerns and opinions of the digital world through our weekly podcast, Gearlog Radio, in which I’m a co-host. There’s even a category on the blog dedicated to me for “Weird Gear”. The second blog I write for is the newly launched AppScout: a software and app-focused site.
It amazes me how far technology has advanced, even in the last few years. Whoever thought we’d see Bluetooth and satellite radio and UMPCs? Heck, the Nintendo Wii makes me feel like a kid again! Working at PC Magazine is such a fun experience. Where else can you play with the coolest gadgets and games and it doesn’t cost you a cent? Now that’s the life!

Jennifer, I would like know what was your first gadget you owned which made everyone else around you jealous.
Hi Jennifer, whatever you say (“I never really considered myself a geek in the “tech” sense.”), your posts don’t speak the same.
Let me know one thing. Since the technology focused blogs amongst all are the most ferociously competed ones, what gives you that edge above the others?
Jennifer, it seems that you’ve a passion for things that surpass the ordinary. Is it inherent?
