Christmas Gifts for Pets
Jayaprashanth | Dec 1 2009

Pets now are an integral part of our lives, so how could we forget them when we go shopping for Christmas gifts? So, here are a few gifts that you could look at to make your pets feel loved and cared for. Time to hit the splurging circuit.

SUV Heated Pet Bed

On your long drives to explore the countryside, pets may feel stifled in regular car seats. To make the journey more fun for them, here is a heated dog bed. This bed uses power from your ciggie lighter and heats up just enough to keep your pets warm and comfortable. And if that isn’t hot enough, it also has massage points to give your pooch a soothing massage. Thankfully, the bed is made with tough, yet soft orthopedic nylon that resists water, stains and scratches. You can order one for $190.

Cat Cocoon

While dogs get kennels in all shapes and sizes, cats often get the short end of the stick, with them having to make do with your couch or worse, your doormats. Now, cats too can get cozy in their own little playhouse called the Cat Cocoon. Originally designed to be a playhouse for cats, the Cat Cocoon will happily serve as a nice little condo for your feline beauty. The pod-shaped Cat Cocoon is made up of tough corrugated cardboard. Its unique shape makes it a nice living room adornment too. The Cat Cocoon costs $330.

Extended Space Wagon

You can’t lug your pooch around everywhere with that snappy little leash. How about a nice little wagon for your pooch? For doing just this, you might want to get yourself the Extended Space Wagon that can be lugged around as you cycle across the countryside. This steel-framed wagon even has a larger sunroof for larger canines. It can also be specified in a stroller configuration. The handy Extended Space Wagon can be yours for $440.

Sexy Beast Signature Dog Fragrance

Petting is real big business, and here is exactly why. Your pet can even wear a perfume of its own. Though we don’t know whether your pet will be overjoyed to wear this perfume, it will surely smell very good for you. That said, the Sexy Beast Signature dog fragrance is totally safe and non allergenic to be used on your pooch. The eclectic fragrances of Bergamont, Vanilla Mandarin and Nutmeg oils combine to create a rich aroma. The packaging is where the real bling is. The Sexy Beast Signature dog fragrance comes in a distinctive 3.4oz bottle engraved with Swarovski crystals. To make it even more exclusive, only 500 hand-numbered pieces will be made, and each one will have your dog’s name engraved on it. Like everything exclusive, the price too is an expensive $850.

Canine Treadmill

Ever seen your pooch stare longingly at the treadmill while you tone up at the gym? Now your doggy too can jog along on its own little treadmill. Though it sounds a little too radical, there are a few such treadmills on sale right now. With outdoor pollution levels rising every day, the treadmill offers a great alternative by providing a pollution-free atmosphere for your dog to exercise. Like all treadmills, the Canine Treadmill too can be programmed for the ideal speed, incline and distance. The Canine Treadmill comes in three different sizes with the biggest one costing $900.

Hugx Dog food Bowl

The humble food bowl of your pet just received some designer treatment from the folks at Hugx Pet Design, and here is what we have. The very radical looking food bowl has strategically placed rubberized footrests so that the bowl doesn’t move around during feeding time. Also, the design of the food bowl is clean, with no corners for pests to accumulate, thus making it a hygienic solution. The detachable bowl even can be washed in your dishwasher. That is a thoughtful feature. Yes, we agree that the Hugx dog food bowl is an excellent design, but here is the shocker: The Hugx Dog Food Bowl will make your pocket lighter by $1,000.

Roberto Cavalli’s Pooch Couture

Dressing up dogs is the fad that the designers have caught on to. And here, we have no less than Roberto Cavalli himself doing the honors. The Roberto Cavalli pooch couture collection is designed for small and medium-sized pooches. The collection includes bathrobes, shorts, jackets and the like. You name it, and your dog can wear it. The pet couture will obviously carry a price tag that is hefty, and here the top of the line stuff comes in at $1,200. That isn’t too much money for a gorgeous looking doggy, is it?

CinePetLounger

Here is a couch for your canine, a comfy couch that has its own little popcorn storage and a stainless steel water bowl holder. And the purpose of this couch is for your pet to lounge around when you watch your favorite flicks. Now, we don’t really get the point behind a couch for your pet to watch movies with you, but we sure know of people who would want to buy themselves one of these. Talking of which, the top end CinePetLounger retails a tad under two grand, at $1,995.

Weizhi Dog Collar

If you want some serious pizazz for your pet, you should be looking at the dog collars that the Japanese company Weizhi makes. Your doggy could be collared with exotic materials ranging from snake, ostrich and crocodile skin. That isn’t all, the skins will be further decked out with silver and other jewels to make it really stand out from the crowd. Now, we wonder what the animal rights activists will have to say about this. If you can manage to drown out their voices, you can buy a Weizhi Dog Collar for a not so inconsiderable price tag of $3,000.

Wilbur Throne from Julia Mai

Kings and their thrones now becomes dogs and their thrones. No sir, don’t get agitated at the above statement, designer Julie Mai has done exactly that and has put together a dashing throne for pooches. The stunning Wilbur Throne is hand made with soft cushioning for your pets to lounge around on. For for a hip-hop star’s den, all of 16 Swarovski crystals add some more glitter to the Wilbur Throne. Thankfully, the designer has made the covers washable and removable. If you want to buy one of these, get in touch with its makers here.

Alabama Dog House

Here is a dog house that will rival any big state house, with the only difference being that it is a miniaturized version. The Alabama Dog house’s opulence and sense of design will make all other kennels look very poor in comparison. Yes, the Alabama Dog House comes with lattice windows, bitumen shingles, a removable roof and even a dormer for the entrance. Crafted from high quality wood, the Alabama Dog House is painted with a weather resistant paint to retain its appeal for a long time. The Alambama Dog House costs $6,600.

Hello Kitty Doghouse

The ubiquitous Hello Kitty line makes it to dog houses too. Though some people will be annoyed with the Hello Kitty merchandise, it rings in cash at the marketplace. Now, coming to the doghouse itself, we are now relieved of the bright yellow Hello Kitty insignia. Instead, we now have 7600 crystals forming the Hello Kitty face. Opulence is a mild word that can describe the Hello Kitty Doghouse. The doghouse even has a soft bed on which your pooch can cuddle. Meanwhile, if all these crystals don’t blind you and your pet, your pet can make the Hello Kitty Doghouse its own little den. You however, will have to shell out $31,660 for it.

Louis Vuitton Dog Carrier

Flying with pets has always been an issue with almost all airlines requiring your pet to be caged in nasty little wooden boxes. Now, the same can be done in a ostentatious trunk that manages to be spacious too, courtesy Louis Vuitton. The trunk features natural leather handles, a brass S lock, a wire door and a zinc pan that serves as a food bowl. The good souls at Louis Vuitton are auctioning this piece of pet kit at Sothebys to aid the Red Cross. You can get yourself one while making a difference in the lives of hundreds of malnourished children in Niger. $42,000 to $58,000 will be the price of this dog carrier.

Amour De La Mer

This dog collar wouldn’t look out of place on some celebrity’s neck. Now, if you think that is quite a cheeky statement, you must take a peek at the Amour De La Mer dog collar. With a 8.5 carat Sapphire taking center stage among 600 hand-set glittering diamonds, the Amour De La Mer is truly a stunner. The chain that holds all this glitter is made of platinum, while the dog collar itself uses fine ostrich leather. Now, that is one piece of canine adornment women wouldn’t mind giving an arm or a leg for. It’s your canine’s for a little under half a million greenbacks.

Designer Tiara

Tiaras don’t just belong to blue blooded princesses and beauty queens. At least, not if Thai designer Riwin Jirapolsek has his way. He has crafted a Tiara worth 4.2 Million USD for Kanune, his 15-year-old Maltese pooch. Yes, you read it right, it is a staggering 4.2 million greenbacks. Canine love at it’s zenith? You bet! And no, he isn’t planning to sell it anytime soon. But don’t fret, you can get in touch with him to make something similar for your pooch too. All you need is a spare five mil in your bank.
